Origin[]
Providence was the name given to an artificial island that Cable created from the remains of Graymalkin after it had been converted into the space station Avalon by Magneto and later crashed onto the planet Earth when Holocaust damaged it in a fight with Exodus. Exodus for a time attempted to rebuild Avalon but stopped after encounter Joseph who at the time he believed was Magneto. Cable later salvaged the remains of Avalon and used it to create the island Providence that served as a base of operations for him in the Pacific Ocean. The purpose of the place was to provide a venue through which the best minds of the planet could gather, live and find new ways to bring about a peaceful future to the world. As such, it as open to any who wished to settle though all residents were required to undergo a number of psychological as well as skills tests. In addition, Providence made use of advanced future technology that was located throughout the island.
